We are delighted to announce the appointment of the new Rector for Colwall and Coddington, the Reverend Melanie Horton
Melanie and her black Labrador Buffy will be moving into the Rectory early in August. She officially begins her ministry with us on 17th August when the Bishop will join the congregation in welcoming her and officially licensing her ministry.
Melanie is currently employed as a school chaplain at St Edmund’s School, Canterbury. She brings a wide variety of experience with her having spent seven years practising law, four years in a parish and eight years in school chaplaincy. Although currently living in the South East Melanie is originally from the West Midlands and still has family and friends in the area.
Melanie is an enthusiastic walker and sailor and is also a keen cook with ‘Masterchef’ style aspirations. She and Buffy are very much looking forward to exploring the local area and getting to know the whole community. Melanie promises to bring an enthusiastic and lively approach as well as a desire to share in friendship and fellowship with everybody.
Concert at the Downs School on the 10th May at 7.30pm. Tickets available from John Goodwin Estate Agent, price £7.50.
Our
treasurer, Derek Turner, retired in March after 42 years in the post.
Here
he is, handing over to the new treasurer, Richard Beard, at a little
celebration after our annual Parochial Church meeting.
As an experiment, we are devoting a part of the church web site to a set of memorial pages, where one can leave more information than would be allowed on a memorial in the churchyard. Click here to see our first few pages.
We're into the music business!
What's a blog? It is a kind of on-line public diary. It's a place where you can do some thinking aloud. It's a means of sharing some thoughts. We have a blog for the Ministry team. Click here to accesss: you can comment on the entries and give us some immediate feedback, which will be very welcome!
We have produced a scheme for re-ordering the chancel - click here for more details. This has been submitted to the Diocesan Advisory Committe who rejected the application and made a number of comments and wanted us to increase the size of the scheme. The PCC has answered these comments and appealed to the diocesan chancellor.
We are preparing plans for a new AV system, involving a projector, electrically operated projection screen, a sound system and a visualiser (like an overhead projector, but going through the main projector). When not in use, the system will be very inconspicuous. The project has been discussed at a PCC meeting and a faculty has been prepared, pending the chancel re-ordering. The Ministry Team, the Seekers, the Enigma group and the Parish Praise people have all been involved and are excited about the possibilities the new system will offer to enhance our worship. At the moment, the faculty for this project is held up, waiting for the chancel re-ordering, but even when we get this sorted out, it will take us all some considerable time to get used to using it, so don't expect major changes too soon!
Consultations are now going on about a new ringing gallery at All Saints, to complement the new bells, and one or two other alterations. More details here.
